Considered by some to be the worst president the United States has ever had, during his tenure as president Andrew Jackson gave great credence to the spoils system and instigated a policy of ethnic cleansing and relocation among the Indian tibes. He was elected in part due to his great military service, especially the bravery and success of his regiment during the War of 1812, the Seminole War, and the Creek War. The Creek War was a war loosely connected to the War of 1812 and occured when the Creek nation attacked white settlements. Andrew Jackson and his regiment were instrumental in defeating the Creeks and Jackson was given the rank of Major General as a result. After winning the war Jackson imposed the Treaty of Fort Jackson on the Creeks, which ceded their land to the U.S. for settlement by whites. He would then serve valiently in the War of 1812 and later lead the U.S. forces in the Seminole War against the Seminole and Creek Indians. His conduct in these wars would be instrumental in winning him the election of 1824. But what if things had gone differently, what if during the Seminole War Jackson was killed by an Indian bullet. How would the absence of this incredibly violent racist president, whom some accused of attempting to make himself emperor of America, effect history?
