Brazil vs South Africa War?

I had this crazy dream of Brazil and South Africa at war, firing ballistic missiles across the South Atlantic. Could such a war occur?

No, not really. I guess if one of the Boer ultranationalists comes to power in one of the world wars, and allies with Germany, and Brazil joins up with the allies (as they did in both world wars OTL), you could have them technically be at war, but not actually fighting any sort of campaigns against each other. Maybe a few naval skirmishes.

My Afrikaner TL features hypersonic bombers being launched from Brazil to targets in Africa, but they're American hypersonic bombers based there due to the military alliance between the two nations.

(Something that comes about in part due to Afrikaner aiding/abetting a bunch of white supremacists trying to carve out their own state in southern Brazil.)

Hmm...if the TL includes a gigantic slave revolt turning Brazil into a black-ruled state and a much larger apartheidish regime, you could have them getting into a war over Boer incursions into Angola, the homeland of a great many of Brazil's slaves (IIRC).

I suppose if the Brazilians managed to avoid the 1964 military coup and developed in a more leftist direction in the 60s and early 70s, they could conceivably get involved in the Angolan War of Independence/Civil War on the side of the leftist MPLA against the SA/US backed UNITA. However, the US would probably pull off an Allende-style coup before things ever went that far.

I doubt Brazil wuld fight a war with South Africa if not inside a Worldwar. The Brazilian people as a whole do not much care for international politics, the only way i can think is if you have Brazil be ruled by a very autoritarian and militaristic dictarship. The one we had was, well considering the rest of South america and the world very"soft" or "mild",if you can say that about a dictadorship.

How about a pre-1900s POD resulting in a more expansionist, powerful Brazil that colonizes Angola or Mozambique after the Portuguese pull out?

Perhaps you could have the Brazilians actively support independence movements in Angola/Mozambique, which starts off a direct confrontation. Fast forward a decade or two and they have become each other's principal enemy, if just for the reason that it is nice to have a big enemy that is thousands of kilometres away

Brazil goes pro- Soviet and support African nationalist movements together with Cuba?? The Apartheid regime consider Brazil their worst adversary.

That's all I could come up with.

here a TL that fits the Idea
i hope you like it

A nuclear War in beginn 1960s
(not important of Cuba Missle War or War about Berlin Wall)

Portugal, Spain, south France, Italy is over run by refugees of north Europe
Portugal dictator goverment decides to move refugees to colonies like Angola and Mozambique
while Brazil president Jânio Quadros offers to take so many refugees as possible
in same time allot of britsh refugees try to find a new home
in South Africa and Rhodesia (OTL today Republic of Zambia )
while Algeria is overrun by French refugees

Beginn of the Cargo Cult
so Brazil, Portugal colonies, South Africa and Rhodesia (and Other countries)
gets foreign technicians, scientists, teachers and other specialists
But there is a lack of everything else tools, factories, textbooks.
so some refugees return to devastated Europe to salvage wat was left over
and send it back to new home countries.
like complet disassembled factory to complett weapon system like B-52 Bomber and other NATO hardware.

South Africa and Rhodesia operate devastated England
Brazil operate in north France, Benelux and north Germany
wat bring them armed confrontation with new French government
the 6 republic under president Jean Marie LePen
but the Problems with Algerians resistance, need all attention

Brazil Military dictatorship 1964-1986
Do internal socioeconomic problem plus the refugees Problem
let to Military putch against president Jânio Quadros
first the People cheered but nothing change
while new leaders and officials enriched with richness of Europe
in 1968 the Dicaturship is ouster by a groop Germans refugees working in Barzil military
again the People cheered only to find them self in a nightmare

the new Dicatorship transtform Brazil, so called "German Efficiency"
many dissidents were executed, the remainder deported to north Europe Workcamps
a Ministry for State Security (portugese: M.S.E.) watch over the People
(the most effective and repressive intelligence and secret police agencies in the world.)

during 1968-1982 Brazil made a bloody change to high tech industrial country.
with priority on military weapons like Nuclear weapons and Bomber, Submarine and ICBM
against the U.S. (to avenge the Third World War)

but Brazil new Industry need commodities, to find in Africa
already Brazil help Portugal in resistance problems in they colonies in Africa
see Cap Verde uprise and mass murder of the population by Brazil militar in 1975
and crushing the Angolan Independence movment 1975-1980
because Angola offert access to new state to Kantanga (former Zaire province with Belgium refugees)

the South African Union
the Apartheid was taken with easy by Europe refugees, even exended to Rhodesia!

1970's Rhodesia were confronted by harsh demand by Portugal, Brazil and Katanga
to hand over parts of Rhodesia to Colonies of Angola and Mozambique !
so there is a direct connection to Angola and Mozambique (this is called the Pink Map in Portugal)

the Brazilan dicator was hungry for war (and to test new weapons systems)
only to discover that Rhodesia join South Africa Union (also extended to Namiba)
and that South Africa Union has Nuclear weapon (from NATO stockpile)

the conflicts is undecided and this is beginn of the Brazil-South Africa Union cold War
