The marriage of Mary Tudor
A Portrait of a young Mary Tudor
On 1533, it is decided by Henry VIII, that Mary Tudor should marry her cousin even if there was a problem in her parents' marriage and has legitimacy issues, this marriage would prevent her from being used by foreign parties who want to gain her hand and to solidify the succession in case he did not have a son himself.
Mary Tudor would marry Henry Brandon on 1534 despite their seven-year age gap of the bride and the groom and she was forced out by her father out of his court and would not be a factor on the foreign relations of England, she would be treated as a noblewoman and not a princess but she was able to be on her mother’s side on her death, the death and downfall of Anne Boleyn would have given Mary Tudor a relief.
“You’re no longer a princess but at least you are free.”
