The marriage of Mary Tudor

A Portrait of a young Mary Tudor

On 1533, it is decided by Henry VIII, that Mary Tudor should marry her cousin even if there was a problem in her parents' marriage and has legitimacy issues, this marriage would prevent her from being used by foreign parties who want to gain her hand and to solidify the succession in case he did not have a son himself.

Mary Tudor would marry Henry Brandon on 1534 despite their seven-year age gap of the bride and the groom and she was forced out by her father out of his court and would not be a factor on the foreign relations of England, she would be treated as a noblewoman and not a princess but she was able to be on her mother’s side on her death, the death and downfall of Anne Boleyn would have given Mary Tudor a relief.

“You’re no longer a princess but at least you are free.”

The crowning of Mary Tudor
On 1553, Edward VI would die and Mary Tudor would succeed as the queen and bring her husband and children to the crown and she already had three surviving children, Catherine of England(December 10, 1537), Charles, Prince of Wales(June 10, 1543) and Mary of England(May 10, 1546).

Her first action as queen was to reverse the actions of her father separating the English Church from the papacy and to exile off the supporters of the reformation, her sister, Elizabeth would be married off to Robert Dudley.

On the death of Maria of Viseu on 1555, Catherine of England would marry Philip II of Spain.

Edward VI here can NOT exclude Mary’s line from the succession as at the worst he can name Mary’s eldest son as heir (instead of Mary herself)

Maria, Duchess of Viseu
On August 10 of 1147, Maria, Duchess of Viseu would marry Philip, Prince of Asturias after his mourning of Maria Manuela of Spain, she would prove to be fertile herself and more distantly related to Philip II and became a stepmother to Infante Carlos.

Maria, Duchess of Viseu would give birth to two daughters, Isabella Clara Eugenia(June 4, 1548), Catherine Michelle(May 4, 1550) and Fernando(January 10, 1550) and a stillborn son on June 10, 1554, a pregnancy which would take her life as well and he would remarry to his cousin, Catherine Brandon, his cousin who was betrothed to the Dauphin and the Count of Savoy before the betrothal with Mary Stuart and the Dauphin was finalized.

Catherine Brandon would give birth to two surviving children, Maria(May 4, 1556) and Felipe (May 10, 1568), despite her many miscarriages and stillbirths.

Maria of Spain would be assigned with the inheritance of the Netherlands and Burgundy before the abdication of Charles in 1556.

The British wedding
On 1562, After grieving her mother and former husband, Francis I, Mary, Queen of Scots would pass to England to gain an ally on her cousin, Mary Tudor, but that would not be without a price, Mary Stuart is remarried to Charles Brandon, Prince of Wales.

On 1563, Charles Brandon, Prince of Wales would see the closeness of Mary, Queen of Scots and Davide Rizzio and he would force Mary Stuart and Davide Rizzio to be apart completely and force him in an English monastery under the guard of his mother, Mary, Queen of England in Canterbury it would take after Mary I’s reign before Mary, Queen of Scots and Rizzio would meet again.

“I would never allow another man to act like as a husband to you.”

So Charles was immature and suffered of unjustified jealousy like OTL Darnley? OTL Rizzio was Marie’s secretary and friend NOT her lover (that were rumors pushed by the English court for destabilising Scotland and Mary)

Yes, he inherited the traits of his namesake, grandpa, Charles Brandon, and Henry VIII.

Mary, Queen of Scots and Charles, Prince of Wales
After the marriage of Mary Stuart and Charles Brandon, Prince of Wales in 1562, Mary Stuart would give birth to a daughter named Elizabeth on February 10, 1563, named after her ancestors, Isabella I of Spain and Elizabeth of York, but Princess Elizabeth would not resemble her husband, Charles Brandon increasing the suspicions of Charles Brandon with Mary Stuart which resulted him sending Davide Rizzio to Canterbury controlled by his mother.

Charles Brandon and Mary Stuart would have two further children named, James, Prince of Rothesay (June 19, 1566) and Catherine Stuart (May 10, 1571), she would have 10 pregnancies in her wedding with Charles Brandon but only three reached adulthood and survived.
