Brandenburg and the Partition of Poland?

Ignoring the butterflies for a moment supposing that Brandenburg had never inherited the Duchy of Prussia - Sigismund II Augustus decides not to allow inheritance via Albert Frederick's daughter - but owned Pomerania and Silesia, do people think that Frederick II would have still participated in the First Partition of Poland? By most accounts he was virulently anti-Polish and not exactly above a little territorial aggrandisement if he thought he could get away with it, however I was wondering if there might not be chance of his actually supporting the Commonwealth, for a price, if only to try and block Russia from expanding.

Frederick II came up with the Partition himself as a means of uniting Prussia with Brandenburg so the butterflies are unignorable.

Without Prussia, Brandenburg would be imo too weak to wrest Silesia from Austria in the first place.

Prussia was not a manpower hub and indeed was called a desolated sandbox. Prussia is unimportant in the acquisition of Silesia.

Depends when. Around 1740 it was still somewhere around one fourth - one third of Prussian population. Plus without Prussian incomes Hohenzollers would have much more difficult task in rebuilding the even more desolate parts of their posessions from the damage of 30YW, so overlall Brandenburg in TTL would be weaker than OTL Brandenburg minus Prussia

the soldiers were not raised from Prussia, hence Prussia not being a manpower hub. Do you have any statistics about Prussia paying for the rebuilding of Brandenburg, because from what I've read all of the Hohenzollern holdings in Prussia were on mortgage until 1713 when Frederick William redeemed them. Prussia's only effect on Brandenburg's army will be that the Frederick's stretched their budget to afford as many soldiers as they did. So without Prussia may have less men.

Indeed. In 1766 Poland was controlled by Russia ,they no need partition, becouse they could do everything in Poland.Unfortunatelly, polish gentry make confederacy to kick Russians out. They were to weak to win,but too strong to loose. So,when Frederick in 1771 propose partition, russians agreed.More important,OTL prussia almost ceased to exist during 7th years war.In your timeline, they would lost.

Most of the army wasn't even from Brandenburg-Prussia. If I remember the "Iron Kingdom" correctly by the end of the reign of Frederick "The Great" Prussia had some 240000 soldiers of which only 80000 to 120000 were from the lands under the Hohenzollern with the rest being from other German states, Sweden, etc...

Ducal Prussia was an important center during the reconstruction of Brandenburg because of their large grain production and easy access to the Polish grain markets and Konigsberg was a important intelectual center.

Yes, Brandenburg was infamous for forcibly recruiting foreigners.

Ah, that makes sense.
