Bright day
My country has only only two PoDs that interest people outside of it. One is a part-time political cudgel and the other is a grinding stone for axes after Habsburgs' heads. This thread is not meant to deal with new situation, instead I, and I hope many others who will post here, will endeavour to explore the election of Rudolph of Habsburg to Imperial throne in new direction. Yes, I am here trying to do I have spoken so much against- instead of "What If" I am asking "How to". (though there is some "What If", in the result)
Also, I do not much believe in butterflies. If you do, please, let us discuss it elsewhere.
As of now I propose the two following PoDs.
PoD 1: Philipp of Sponheim becomes archbishop of Salzburg in the Czech-Hunagrian War of 1259-1260. I have no idea what really happpned here, the Czech alliance won a good victory at Kressenbrunn, so I think that just few more choice death on opposing side could lead to control of archbishopric. (He claimed the title for all of his life).
Results: Philipp of Sponheim was also archbishop of Aquilea, can he be one even if his seat in Salzburg is secure?
What is going to hapen to inheritence of his brother Udalrich of Sponheim? Krain and Karnten? OTL the dispute ended in a war between Phillip and Przemysl Ottocar II. - personally I feel that Phillip would be more willing to settle things with the bohemian king and to allow him to be undisputed lord of these lands. (I do not know if posession of Aquilea by Phillip would make him more or less likely to accept Ottocar's new posessions).
Is Poderone still acquired by Przemysl Ottocar, without the taking on of Aquilea? I do not think the town itself is very important, from strategic viewpoint. But it cemented Przemysl's image of heir of Staufen- and as man who is personally interested in Italy, thus worrying the pope. Also the men and money used in taking of the town could be used elsewhere.
Wanted Result: A friendly archbishopric of Salzbrug. OTL Fridrich of Walchen placed interdict on Przemysl Ottocar II, adding to unrest against him and delegitimising Przemysl Ottocar II. If Phillip is friendly the unrest in Przemysl Ottocar!s souther dominions will be lessend, stabilizing his dominion somewhat.
PoD 2: Rudolph of Habsburh decisively defeats Heinrich bishop of Basel, forcing the latter to exile. In OTL the news of confirmed candidacy reached Rudolph besieging Basel. If it reaches him only after he has taken the city, well that is it.
Results: Rudolph has Basel for one.
Werner of Eppenstein, archbishop of Mainz seems bit foolish saying that Rudolph was "man genteel and carefull... of manners nobly /defering/delaying/holding back", whereas people could Heinrich bishop of Basel walk around saying "God in Heavens, sit tightly on your throne, or Rudolp will try to oust You too!".
Wanted results: Brandenburg and Saxony votes for Przemysl (OTL they
fought on his side aganist the new emperor) and after thinking things through one of the electors from Trier or Cologne does not vote fro Rudolf (this is where I lack knowledge), but not yet voting for Przemysl.
The vote goes on as OTL otherwise and Bavaria still votes in place of Bohemia. So Rudoplh gets four votes- Palatinate, Mainz, Trier/Cologne and Bavaria. But enraged at the new voting the abstaining elector fully switches to Przemysl and Przemysl is thus elected with four votes- Saxony, Brandenburg, Bohemia and Cologne/Trier.
And Fun begins. (Warning: detecting hate waves emanating from Frankfurt-Rhine-Main area

Two suns over Germany.
Many of ideological preparations for are same as OTL.
Rudolph argued that election of Przemysl was invalid as the Sachsenspiegel makes a clear arguement that a Slav cannot be an elector of german emperor. Amongst the clergy circulates the saying "Cum in Alemania plures principes et comites habeamus, quare vellemus Sclavum ad imperium sublimare?", though the author was disputed- supporters of Rudolph claimed that pope Gregory X himself pronounced, opponents claimed that it is a lie perpetuated by vile Werner of Eppenstein, the so-called archbishop of Mainz.
Nevertheless, the things ought to progress faster OTL and be less perilous for Ottocar I HRE. Thus I propose this the armies of Rudolph and Ottocar meet in 1275 (year earlier than OTL) and actually make battle in which Ottocar pushes Rudolph back, but is unable to continue as he is facing noble revolts in his sothern domains and even nobles in his ancestral domains are showing their teeth.
For now at least there are once more two suns over Germany.
