So, we all know that William Adelin's death in 1120 in the White Ship Disaster helped precipitate the Anarchy, as Henry I remarried and tried to have a son but failed and so had his lords swear fealty to his daughter Empress Matilda. Many of those lords later reneged on their fealty and swore fealty to Stephen of Blois, Matilda's cousin.

What I'm wondering is what would happen if both Henry I and William Adelin were killed in disasters. Both of their ships hitting rocks for example and consequently causing them both to drown? Or if Henry I died shortly after receiving news of William's death.

What would this do to the political situation in England and Normandy, as Matilda was still married to Henry V. Who would take the throne of England? What would the French do?
