Bosnia- Srebernica defended by Iranian blue helmets 1995

Well, the Canadians and French fought at the Medak Pocket, which was the largest firefight UN forces engaged in since Korea. That was basically defending Serbian civilians from Croats.

French? I know and proud of Canadian guys there, but haven't heard that French were there too. Quite possible, French were less affected by rabid anti-Serb propaganda. To make the picture complete we just need to refresh our readers' memory and remind them that those guys were transferred out of area immediately by their UN superiors to let Croats continue their cleansing and killing campaign unopposed.

Yeah...the Canadian M113s from the Vandoos and PPCLI were on one side and the French were on the other side of the two-pronged offensive that took out the Croat artillery in the hills.

The Canadian troops were the ones that actually bulled their way past the roadblocks, though.

hmmm, back to the original proposition- the effectiveness of the Safe Areas in 1993-95 could only have been facilitated had there somehow been the requested 34,000-odd reinforcements to UNPROFOR to protect Sarajevo, Tuzla, Gorazde, Bihac, Srebernica & Zepa & make the whole damn concept work. So OK, if the Iranian offer was always untenable, there were also other countries willing to contribute men (as William Shawcross discusses in his book DELIVER US FROM EVIL), such as Pakistan, Jordan or Tunisia, plus others willing to provide necessary military equipment- like Germany or Austria- however, regrettably, the former withdrew their offers of manpower when the latter reneged on their offers of equipment. However, WI both sets of offers had actually eventuated ? The Safe Areas concept may have been at least somewhat more workable ?
