Book of Predictions

Book of Predictions was a compendium of predictions by David Wallechinsky, Amy Wallace, and Irving Wallace of People's Almanac fame from various sources including "psychics", scientists, and science-fiction writers published in 1980. By 2015, most of the predictions for the "future" have had a chance to be tested and I felt it would be interesting to share some of them.

These predictions by David S. Sullivan are quite amusing, as they are not only completely inaccurate but practically the exact opposite of what happened in real life:

By 1983
-Fully within the terms of the proposed SALT II treaty, the Soviet Union will have achieved clear-cut, unmistakable strategic nuclear superiority over the U.S. The Soviet Union will have more strategic delivery vehicles, warheads, throw-weight (payload), greater missile accuracy, and a clear first-strike counterforce capability. The strategic nuclear supremacy will checkmate or neutralize all U.S. strategic forces, seriously eroding deterrence of war at the intercontinental, theater nuclear, and conventional levels.
-The Soviet Union will also achieve theatre nuclear superiority over the NATO alliance, Communist China, and Japan.
-The Soviet will add naval superiority to their long-standing superiority in conventional ground forces. The Soviets will therefore achieve overall military superiority over all of their enemies combined.
-There will be a severe nuclear crisis somewhere in the world, perhaps precipitated by events in the Middle East. This will be a U.S.-Soviet "Cuban Missile Crisis" in reverse, with the U.S. retreating and backing down this time. There will be no nuclear attacks or even conventional fighting.
-The U.S. stock market will crash, completely destroying U.S. economic stability. The value of the dollar on international money markets will drop drastically, and the U.S. will enter an economic depression far deeper and of longer duration than the Great Depression of 1929-1936. The U.S. economy will be destroyed and the U.S. will no longer be a superpower. The Soviets know that they can use their strategic and military superiority to attack the greatest U.S. vulnerability-the unstable psychology of the U.S. stock market and the already shaky economic prestige of the U.S.

By 1993
-The U.S. will have ceased to be a great power and will be struggling to hold itself together as a viable nation. The Soviet Union will be approaching hegemony over most of the world.
-The People's Republic of China will seek rapprochement with the U.S.S.R. NATO will have long before dissolved, and all of Europe and Japan will be dominated by the U.S.S.R.

1993-2030
-Economic crisis and chaos will persist in the U.S., due to the collapse of our military power, foreign policy, and economic prestige. The depletion of world oil reserves in the 1990s will add to the social and economic crisis in the U.S. The "American Way of Life" and the "American Dream" will not persist.
-Americans will become refugees in the world. There will be racial, economic, and civil war in the U.S., and nomadic tribes will reappear.

2000
-After a series of local wars around thew world in which the U.S.S.R. continues to suppress rebellion against Soviet hegemony, the U.S.A. will finally begin to revive itself and fight back against Soviet repression.

The sad thing is that David Sullivan was no self-proclaimed psychic. Worse, he was a foreign policy analyst at the CIA.

Well, thankfully, a refugee community of "Muricans" living in that dystopian future invented a time machine in 2135 and returned to the USA in 1979 to ensure that Ronald Reagan was elected President and the inexorable march of the USSR to world domination was stopped, resulting in our timeline where the The US crushed the USSR's economy.
