Bonus Army

If you don't know about the Bonus Army march on Washington D.C., here is some info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonus_army

What if this event became much more violent, where hundreds, maybe even thousands died? What could cause it, or is that really implasuable? Could something have driven MacArthur off the edge to force the army to fire on the World War One veterans?

I don't know all the minor specifics about this event, but I wonder what could have happend if thousands had died. So what do you think? Thanks.

This might have radicalized politics more generally

Would the removal of McArthur have weaked the US effort in WW2? I am inclined to believe no.

However who would end up as US chief in Japan after WW2?

If there were no McArthur incident might Truman have been more popular and thought of running in 1952

Also I think I heard that in OTL Eisenhower played a minor role in removing the bonus army. His being removed from the scene would make a big difference. Would it have happened?
