some of you may know the story of Thor's Oak, a sacred tree that was protected by the Chatti (ancestors of the Hessians). in 723, Saint Boniface came to the area to convert the local pagans to Christianity, and ordered the tree to be chopped down. when he wasnt struck by lightning, the Germanics agreed to be baptized
anyway, what if Boniface died shortly after giving the order to chop down the tree? for this discussion, lets assume that he just dies rather than necessarily being struck by lightning. what do you all think would be the effects on Christianity and paganism ITTL?
