Bonapartist Restoration

Well Marshall Bernotte (spelling) they rule in Sweeden - don't they? :D

Ha, good point, the Bernadottes !

Ney I think had died out, Davout still exists as the Second Empire recreation in a collateral line to the Marshal's descendants, and I don't know what the Duc d'Auerstadt was up to in the war ? Berthier, I think, still had descendants too

I think the Beauharnais died out as Russian princes, weirdly enough !

The Big question that I have to deceide on is what would the effect be of the restoration taking place earlier say in the late 1920's or early 1930's. The depression, even if it was milder would have the Frech population looking for someone who could make things better and a possible civil war in Belgium might also stir things up.

Let us say that with the tough times of the 1930's and the depression that has set in Prince Jerome BonaparteIV arises to the occassion and leads a movement for change. The army has lost faith in the government as has the people. Thus the time has arisen for the man on the White Horse. The French speaking population of Belgium is fighting a civil war and Jerome means to have France support their brothers and if need be encourage their merger with France. Vive L'Emperor!!!

The Annexation of the french speaking parts of Belgium to France was considered by the French people a return to the natural borders of France. Jerome Bonaparte's first action as emperor was to rebuild the military which had fallen into ruin by the failure to fund it properly. Jerome had the French ambassador to the Cout of St James asure the British government that France would not seek to annex any other territory. However, Jerome was concern by the variety of threat to Europe and France that were arising.

There was one Beauharnais whose marriage was dubious, so his son's succession was not accepted.

There are Princes Murat (and princesses, including Rene Auberjonois's mother), a Prince of Essling (Massena), a Duke of Albufuera (Suchet), and a Duke of Montebello (Lannes) -- the snobbish director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Philippe de Montebello, is a direct descendant of Lannes. And of course there is Bernadotte.
