Around the turn of the century, Italy faced a fairly serious anarchist/revolutionary movement that eventually led to the assassination of then King Umberto I.
Now Umberto I only had one kid, the rather short man that would become known as Victor Emmanuel III.
So what if, instead of Umberto being killed by 4 revolver rounds like OTL, he and his son are killed by a bomb plot?
Now I'm not quite sure who would assume the throne. I'm assuming that the Italians wouldn't allow a female monarch, which would cause the throne to go to either Tommaso the Duke of Genoa (King Umberto's 2nd Cousin). However another possibility would be for the throne to go to...

Victor Bonaparte, the current Bonapartist claimant to the French throne.
Now the safe choice would obviously be the Duke of Genoa, but what if France agreed to let the Bonapartists take the Italian Throne in exchange for them renouncing all claims on the French throne?
