Bolivar liberates the Guianas

What if Simon Bolivar decided to kick all the Europeans out of South America and went after British, Dutch, and French holdings?

Could those powers have beat him?

He wouldn't even get to the Dutch (the second Guiana) if he even attempted to cross into the British Guiana.

Bolivar was successful because the Spanish Empire had declined and the Spanish colonies wanted independence, the second he tries to go after the other Empires he's toast as all of them are quite capable of sending forces and routing him and the Guianas at the time had very few people and little in the way of political life and thus no real independence movements.

A bit tricky and not that serious : couldn't a defeated Bolivar raise a guerilla-like movement in Guiana, less to put out British, Dutch or French rather than having a rear base out of Spanish colonies?

Backfires Spectacularly

You know, depending on when this happens you could have extensive repercussions on the entire Continent. It is obvious Bolívar cannot truly win against the Great Powers, not even against France or Britain alone. But him merely trying is going to cause a massive shift in Relations between the European Greats and the American Break Away States.

You could wind up with the Great Powers trying to restore Spanish Rule more earnestly, which is just going to cause a massive headache.

The Guianas weren't the only European colonies left in South America. The Portuguese monarchy is still hanging around in Brazil. Which adds another set of headaches to Bolivar if he goes whole hog and tries to kick the Europeans out of South America.

After, IIRC, 1822, Portugal doesn't hang around in Brazil.

well, just like JCVocke say, this was probably a good POD to have a restored Spanish empire TL. Bolivar decide to liberate the Guianas and soon he got his ass handed by combined British-French expeditionary troops. The British and French soon start to think the effects of colonial revolts, and start to carve the recently independent nations by themselves. But meanwhile, the Spanish situation stabilizes and with some minor concessions, British and French now giving back the south american rascals into Spanish hands.

:D

I'm not sure. I think Britain would see having access to all Latin American markets as independent nations as outweighting a token presence in Guiana, which to this day does not even have that much of a population and didn't go that far back in time anyway (1803 or 1814 depending of how you see it).

Think about: the same Britain that pushed for an international pro-absolutist intervention in Spain in 1823 pushed against the same to intervene in support of Spain in South America.

After all, Britain kissed the Moskito Coast bye, didn't it?

I see, however, a possible conflict over the guianas between Gran Colombia and Brazil (who had occupied French guiana during the Napoleonic Wars).

I think than Bolivar didn't make this because this first task is expelling the Spanish from America and OTL he planning two expeditions to liberating Cuba and Puerto Rico. Second his plan was to unifiy the former spannish colony and no to make war.
