Bogomil and beyond... My first AHC

So I've been trying to put this idea together that involves wanking Bogomilism as a religion.

My own rough idea is that Bogomilism becomes the state religion of the Bulgarians (or even the Rus') with hilarity ensuing. Could this dualistic faith become dominant (or at least well-represented) in Medieval Europe?

here's a link for a quick once over: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bogomilism

Does anyone have any ideas on the matter?

The first problem I can see is that the political tendencies of Bogomil were resistance to the state and church authorities, nor did it build any churches, with their rituals being perform outdoors.

These two factors would result in the lack of power that the religion can play.

If they were happy to build churches and accept that a certain, heirachy was needed, it may grow larger, but would the Pope allow a religion that saw the world created by the Devil, instead of God, to preach?

Why would the Pope have anything to do with Bulgaria?

Why would the Pope have anything to do with Bulgaria?

The same way the Pope had anything to do with Jerusalem and Byzantine Empire.

If the Pope believes that there is dangerous heretics at the gates of Christidom, the Pope will send an army to put it right.
