Bob Dole '76

Lets say that Bob Dole manages to win the Republican '76 nomination, has Reagan as his VP, and beats Carter by a big landslide, even winning Carter's home state (Georgia). What happens to America now?, and Afghanistan?

EDIT: Sorry, meant to put WI in the title.

Bob Dole wasn't running in '76 (he ran in 1980, 1988, and 1996).

Reagan, massively popular character though he was, lost to Ford (although he could have won)—Dole has no chance of beating Ford, and only a moderate chance of beating Carter.

Dole wasn't considered for Nixon's VP slot.

If you want (for whatever godforsaken reason) Dole in '76 you need to go back. Like no Watergate/no Nixon dirty tricks and heck Agnew should probably stay out of trouble (if we want Republicans to win in '76) but nobody really liked him for President so even if he runs he doesn't go anywhere.

Assuming butterflies don't screw things up I suppose it could be a Dole/Reagan/whoever race in '76 and I suppose (though it's bloody unlikely) Dole could beat Reagan.

Carter (via Hamilton Jordan) had a solid gameplan, he can probably still win the Democratic primaries.

So it's Dole Vs. Carter but at the best we're talking a very marginal Dole victory prompted by Carter screwing up or Dole having an equivalent campaign team to Ford's in '76.

You won't have a Dole landslide under any conditions (full stop, it's ASB unless Carter kills his wife or something) but I suppose he'd be President. And then what? Well just picture what Ford would do. Both were pretty similar old school conservatives.
