Bob Casey Sr enters the 1992 Democratic Primary

Simple question what if Casey entered the 1992 Democratic Primary could he have won and if so how would the general look (VP selection, Casey vs. Bush, etc.)? The Democratic field that year seemed fairly weak with none of the party heavyweights running. Also most Democrats that did were running as “New Democrats” social liberals and fiscal conservatives apart from Tom Harkin, but Casey was the exact opposite a social conservative and fiscal liberal.

I don't think he'd win. But he could shake up the race in a way that has major butterflies. For instance, if Casey takes votes from Clinton, and if as a result Clinton's support is so weakened that he doesn't tie with Tsongas in NH, then he might not become the nominee.

I'm torn if Casey could win in 92. But with no "Comeback Kid" for Clinton leading to Clinton not being the nominee who do you think is the most likely nominee? Also, how do you think Casey would fare in the Rust Belt?

Possibly Tsongas. If he decisively wins NH, he would be on track to win Maine and Colorado and gain momentum from there. However Clinton would still sweep the South, giving him the opportunity for a later comeback.
