Blue Skies in Camelot (Continued): An Alternate 80s and Beyond

I'm sure that many people have their own opinions, their own two cents to give, as to the causes of the Soviet collapse and I count myself among them. My personal opinion is that the Gorbachev didn't cause the collapse, but merely accelerated it by some years. The basic faults were already there.
In my opinion, the USSR could have survived if reforms had been pursued more gradually: the opening of the press allowed the population to speak openly about the economic problems before the reforms could have had any effect leading in part to the radicalization of the local populations against the central government. I have always thought that if Gorbachev had reformed the economy first and opened up the press later on, the Soviet Union in some form would have survived (maybe under the Union of Independent States or a more centralized Commonwealth of Independent States).

Impressive chapter update Mr. President on President RFK to decline the invasion of Grenada. With him and the rest of the world agreed on this issue after Maurice Bishop led a coup d'état and later executed along with his loyalists. He only instituted economic and financial sanctions, along declaring the regime in Grenada illegitimate. After declining to send troops in Lebanon, President RFK did really do the right thing even his critics didn't agree with him. With Senator Rumsfeld disagreed with his action, he might be his next opponent in the 1984 US Presidential Election ITTL. With Former VP Reagan out of the picture due to his age and his later illness with Alzheimer's Disease; Former VP and State Secretary Nixon has retired from public service to gave way to Reagan previously in 1980; and Former President Bush has refused to run again in office after serving his term; it's either Senators Dole or Rumsfeld. We'll see about that soon.

Soviet Union has finally changed its leadership with the removal of First Secretary Romanov and to be replaced by Gorbachev after securing enough votes to elect him in office. His rereading of Lenin's writings later in his life on proposing for a reform on the New Economic Policy from the 1920's was finally become a reality and put the country's economy back on track. With him elected in office, his leadership set a standard from what his predecessors used to do before. With his wife Raisa as his closest advisor, they're about to bring a new era in Soviet Politics. With the US-Soviet Summit set in Geneva in Spring 1985, the Cold War was about to have its conclusion at last.

Forgive me geniuses for replying late because you caught me off-guard with the update and haven't replied due to my hectic schedule now that I'm returning to college to finish my course. It's wasn't used to be after I finished Senior High and have a smooth transition to First Year College in 2019, when all of my fellow colleagues in Senior High were on the same track entering college. After the pandemic changed the way we live in, I didn't accept it yet but I have to if we want to keep moving forward. After I learn and discovered this timeline from YouTube, you already got my curiosity and attention. As I've read this for the first time, it brought me a new sense of hope on what could've been a different timeline we would've lived in. Now that I'm getting back in college from where I've left before, I'm going to finished it this time. Even my colleagues have already graduated, there were a few of us left who are finishing their college now that we're already past the pandemic and don't like online classes. I couldn't thank you enough for all the hope you gave me from this timeline of yours Mr. President, you really saved my life. Now I'm hoping and praying that I finished my college and have a great future ahead of me, to all of my friends and colleagues, and to all of you here as well.

Looks like we're going to More Major Events from 1983, whatever major news of the year ITTL, the world is in better place and keep the flame of hope to them. We'll see and learn more of this information in the next chapter updates. Have a wonderful day geniuses!
If MJ still alive ITTL, its good for everyone plus I wonder what he would do with his fortune or influence in politics.
I believe this video would explain what his political views are when he's still alive.
I wonder if there’s gonna be a second term curse for Bobby (if he’s reelected) which lead to the Republicans taking back Congress in 1986 and the White House in 1988 ITTL.
Let's all hope that President RFK re-elected in 1984, control both houses of Congress in 1986, and Vice President Bentsen elected as President in 1988 ITTL.

Good luck at college.

One question for a few years down the line: is this TL gonna get the great sport movies we got in OTL?

In OTL, there were several great sports movies that came out in the 80s and early 90s, including The Natural (1984), Hoosiers (1986), Bull Durham (1988), Field of Dreams, and Major League (both 1989). Will those remain? Major League and Field Of Dreams could both be interesting, because we don't really know where Kevin Costner (who is in two of the films I listed as a main character), Charlie Sheen, and Wesley Snipes are gonna end up yet. Personally, I'm excited to see what the fate of those films are.

Timeline Update - 8/22/24
Greetings, everyone! Apologies for the slowdown in updates recently.

Unfortunately, as we near the end of the summer, I have been hard at work gearing up for grad school and a return to my 9-5 (er, 7 - 3?) as a high school teacher. I have also been going through some personal difficulties of late. Namely, my girlfriend of nearly seven years and I broke up at the beginning of this summer. I'm doing okay, getting a little better every day. But with all of that, as well as a minor health scare for my brother (don't worry, he's fine now, but he did require a short hospital stay), I haven't had much time to write and plan recently.

On the bright side, I'm absolutely still working on Blue Skies in Camelot; I'm as excited as ever to continue moving this story forward. I hope to find some time this weekend to tweak my next update and have it ready to post sometime next week. As always, thank you for your patience and for your readership. Y'all are the best!

Sincerely,
President_Lincoln

Sorry to hear it didn't work out with her. She's been with you since 2017 up until now, that's nonetheless impressive what with what's been going on in the world. I know that sort of thing isn't easy on people, I've never dated anybody myself but I got emotionally attached to somebody over six years ago and it took me longer than I want to admit to let go. You'll be okay, we all go at our own paces. Happy that your brother's good, and I hope that the 2024-25 school year goes exceptionally well!

You've had a full plate with everything, BSiC has been around for two pop culture eternities and then some, and we're happy to see it move forward. Again, at your own pace!

We've got you, Mister President!

Thank you both! :D It's been hard. That said, I think we're all going through personal growth right now. That feels good.

I’m sorry to hear about that President_Lincoln, I haven’t had a girlfriend but I know somebody personally who also had a break-up with their girlfriend, so I have a feeling of what that must be like. That’s also good that your brother is safe and okay, I’m glad to hear that! I hope you’re doing well Mr. President!

Wow, doing your own homework and having to grade everyone else's?
Yup, that'll suck away all of the time there ever was.
For real tho, you're probably the cool teacher; good luck in grad school!

my girlfriend of nearly seven years and I broke up at the beginning of this summer.
Big oof, that sucks out loud man; sorry to hear (well, read but you know what I mean) that.
a minor health scare for my brother (don't worry, he's fine now, but he did require a short hospital stay)
Glad he's doing ok

Understandable; you've had a lot on your plate.
Take care man, we'll all still be here when you've got the time. 🙂
