Bismarck the democrat against the Prussian king

Bismarck is known as a Conservative junker, but this doesn't mean he was what one may call a conformist. In fact, during his youth he was nicknamed "mad Bismarck".

In our world, the king Wilhelm I. supported Bismarck. But this could have been different, with another king of the throne, or Wilhelm having a different personality. And noone will doubt that Bismarck was a man who loved power.

Starting with the premise that the Prussian king won't support Bismarck, he has to find a different way to power, and chooses to align with the Democrats. How would history turn out then?

Do you mean the liberals in the Prussian parliament? I doubt Bismarck could have achieved much. The government was always chosen from among the conservatives and junkers. At best Bismarck switches to the conservatives to gain power, perhaps becoming minister.

Who says Bismarck would have accepted this? It was a time of upheavals. Bismarck might have resorted to starting a revolution - and giving his personality, could have succeeded.
