Big Brother's Animal Farm

When it comes to starting threads, I like posting minute scenarios to see if a small change could have grand effects.

So here it is: what if George Orwell were not to exist?

What would happen? Who would be affected by this ripple in history?

If dystopian fiction gets a massive setback, then does that mean people on *AH.com prefer to write utopian timelines instead?

It would be a great loss to literature. perhaps other dystopian works like We or Darkness at Noon would be far better known. That's not to say that either work is obscure.

If anything, there'd be less sectarianism in the revolutionary left, because Orwell's works presumably had an effect of polarising the Stalinists and the revolutionaries who actually understood Marx. I don't think the effect is big enough to be seriously noticeable.
