Bibliography Recommendations - 'Judges' Era Canaan

I am working - or trying to work - on an AH project involving the period of the Hebrew invasion of Canaan.

The problem I'm running into is the wildly varying quality of the available research resources.

Can someone give me some recommendations for reading material for the history of this area of the Near East that isn't just an apologia or rewording of the Old Testament account? Or is Kenyon pretty much the only 'serious' work available?

You need to take a view on the chronology controversy involving ancient Egypt. Are we at the end of the late bronze age following an Exodus in the reign of Ramesses II, or in the middle bronze age and shortly after the start of Hyksos rule in Egypt? The former is the orthodox view and you might try the works of Kenneth Kitchen.
Personally I would go with the latter and assume David Rohl's revised scheme as the OTL, with the caveat that Rohl's research is a work in progress and there is dissent among the revisionists about the details. For Rohl's chronology see The Lost Testament, which in paperback was called From Eden to Exile (Rohl has an annoying habit of editing his book titles after first publication).
