Better German-Japanese strategic cooperation

the German request or plan was for Japan to attack British territories specifically Singapore, not sure how feasible for Japan in 1940 or relative British strength at that time vs. OTL invasion in early 1942.

War very nearly erupted at that point OTL. It wouldn't have take THAT much for Japan to attack the UK, but it had everything to do with the latter's support to Chiang

wonder if the Japanese calculation in 1940 had to include the fact Germany HAD been aligned with KMT China AND was collaborating with USSR, so they might encourage them (Japan) to attack GB only to revert to trading with China? hence my earlier post that one way to have closer cooperation between Germany-Japan would be NOT to have Sino-German military cooperation, or end it much earlier?

It is my impression that the Axis alliance was merely an alliance of convenience-the common denominator being anti-communism. Also, there were too many differences, notably politically. Japan had nothing in common with Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy. Although a constitutional monarchy, Japan was actually governed by a right-wing military junta led by General Hideki Tojo, rulling Japan in the name of the emperor.
