Changing the engines to the BMW 132 - can be the 880hp version of the HS-123 - more power / same class of engine - or the even more powerful version (up to 1200hp)
nose - 2 (4?) mgm 131 - 13mm HMG
Gun - BK 37mm - or optimized BK 37 with more ammo

Better performance and with good weapons.....
Everything is easy to obtain....

Were the necessary engines available though? Thought this was the bottleneck in German aircraft, that the powerful engines were not produced in enough numbers or were not developed enough to widely produce.

Exactly, these are not powerful engines.... are the ones used in the Ju-52 and other low power / low priority planes..... - the engine is the bmw 132 not the 801 (used in the fw-190)...

Have you looked at the weight of the engines? The aircraft was originally designed around Argus engines which were quite light. Whatever armament that was available was tried. Included was the biggest gun. Still, it was dogmeat to Russian fighters. It carried lots of armor against groundfire, but like the Il-2M3, it remained vulnerable to fighters, and it would never have sufficient performance to avoid this fact. That the Luftwaffe next considered Italian engines underlines their knowledge of reality. They saved the good engines for the FW-190F/G.

Guys....
I'm not talking about the BMW engines of the FW-190 (the 801 btw).... i'm talking about the low power 132 used in the ju-52.....read the first post and the links please....

using that kind of hardware the Hs-129 can be produced about one year before and in greater numbers....

BTW, all dedicated CAS need air superiority... or are toast.
But even with those limitations, the Ju-87G do much damage - the proposed HS-129 (C version ?) is a better plane an can be available at the same time in great numbers....
