-from the Bos:cool:

1.) 1389 Serbs loose against Turks
2.) Battle of Mohaç (Hunarians loose against Turks OL)
3.) Conquest of Budapest by Turks
4.) The two sieges of Vienna
5.) Siege of Belgrad
6.) Siege of Plevna
7.) Two seperate Balkan Wars
8.) Crown Prince of Austria killed in Serbia
9.) Yugoslavia halting Italians and forcing the Germans to postpone Russian Invasion for 2-3 months

Thats what I can think of right now

I assume you're talking about the Balkans in the last millennium. These are PODs I remember putting up myself:

1) Bulgaria doesn't start the 2nd Balkan War.

2) The Turkish advance into the Balkans is stopped in the mid 14th century.

3) The pro-German government in Belgrade is not overthrown in 1941, so there is no German intervention.

4) Austria doesn't lose its 1737-1739 war with the Ottomans.

5) Vienna falls in 1529 (not a Balkan POD, but has effects there).

6) Vienna falls in 1683 (not a Balkan POD, but has effects there).

7) Suleiman doesn't die at the Battle of Szigetvar.

8) Russia gets the Romanian Principalities at the Treaty of Bucharest (at least I think I put it up).

9) Greece joins the Crimean War on Russia's side.

10) Napoleon III lands a Hungarian Legion led by Lajos Kossuth on Austria's Adriatic coast during the Austro-Sardinian War.

Classical
  • Romans annex even more of the Balkans
  • Maybe a Macedonian successor state in 'Dacia'

Medieval

  • Bulgarian Empire lasts
  • Various 1st Crusade marches through the Balkans could be interesting
  • 4th Crusade and the ramifications thereof
  • Vlad 'the Impaler' and PoDs using him

Modern
  • Bulgaria doesn't gain its independence from the Ottomans
  • Yugoslavia doesn't form
  • Yugoslavia goes NATO

Since Yugoslavia was mentioned:
- Yugoslavia stays firmly in the Soviet Union's camp
- Yugoslavia forms a kind of union with Bulgaria (all Southern Slavs in one state) after WW2

Could you give me a history lesson?

Or in other words: elaborate :)

Siege of Belgrade (1456): John Hunyadi beats the Ottomans, possibly saving Hungary, and dies shortly after (the plague or something like that).

Siege of Pleven (1877): It takes several months of bloody fighting for the Russians and Romanians to take this important Ottoman fort in northern Bulgaria. Not really much of a POD, unless there's something I'm missing.

There are two POD options:

1.) The ottoman fort is overrun, and the Russian forces can capture Istanbul.
Without the European power having ennough time to diplomatically intervene. Leading to an allianated Germany and KuK.
2.) Osman Pasha successfully organizes a counter attack, and routes the Russians. No treaty that allows the russians to pass the bophorus.

1) Britain intervenes. They were pretty close even in OTL.

2) One way or the other, the Ottomans still get their asses handed to them. The San Stefano map looks more like the Berlin one.

I think it would be best for Balkans if the Byzantium Empire survived - in the borders between 1261 and 1340 - meaning no Turcs in Europe, with Byzantium weak enough to not pose significant danger to other Balkan states.
