Best time for Muslim missionaries to Japan pre-Meiji?

Is there really any best time for Islam to take root in Japan through the activities of missionaries, rather than conquerors? I can find almost nothing regarding proselytizing pre-20th century. From which nation or region would these missionaries come from, and which regions or historic notables of Japan would most disposed to conversion?

Islam would be best positioned to spread in Japan if it could be associated with something noteworthy, if it was the dominant religion of a major trade or other partner of Japan for instance. For this to happen, Japan would need to be in contact with such a power. I'm not aware of anything that would remotely count--the East Indies were far away, for instance. Maybe a Muslim Mongol empire of some kind?

Crush the Spaniards in the region. The East Indies as a whole slowly become majority Muslim, and perhaps missionaries can trickle from there. :p

Have the muslims succeed in prosetylizing in the northern philippines, that is if demak is recognized as the majapahit successor.

I believe they had a solid relationship with the champa kingdom which turned Muslim relatively late.

Issue would be that the merchants are not that well considered in Japan. Nevertheless, that's a start!
