Best solution for the term of office in a semi-presidential system

It is an alternative story, I am separating the Executive Power into two persons (Head of State and Head of Government) who will be elected separately.

I am undecided on the duration of Mandates. At the moment the Head of State lasts 6 years without re-election and the Head of Government 4 years with the possibility of re-election.

Do you have a better proposal for the term of office?

6 or 7 years for a Head of State are normal for most semi-presidential system so that would work.
For the Head of Goverment it depends how the position is elected direct by the people or by the parliament or congress. If the later the term would be the term or this assemblies. But 4 is the a norm too.

Hmm, okay. I prefer even numbers, so you could make the Head of State's term last 8 years but what would be the advantages and disadvantages as well as other consequences? (the Head of Government lasts 4 years with re-election)

If i understand you correctly the Head of Government will be elected directly by people like the Head of State?
with terms of 8 and 4 years every 2 cycle the both positions will be elected in the same year and that is maybe not a good idea because the same events will influence both elections.

So you're suggesting this?
Head of State:
* 2000 - 2008
* 2008 - 2016
Head of Government
* 2002 -2006
* 2006 - 2010
* 2010 - 2014
* 2014 - 2018

although I would prefer it to be in the same years a few months apart.

Yes :)

If the election are in the same year it is very likely that the events influencing the election will put person from the same party in this position.
At least for most of the time. Then one could ask wouldn´t be simpler to switch to a pure presidential system.

because of certain facilities, I would prefer them to be in the same year... that coincide every 6 or 8 years.

One of the purposes of a head of state role separate from head of government is to provide a sense of reassurance and stability during difficult times. That suggests they should not be reelected at the same time as PMs.

I understand, if I follow your line, if on September 2, 2018 the Head of State is elected, the election of the Head of Government could be held on September 1, 2019 or should I wait until September 6, 2020 to give the country time on different issues?

Thank you all. Now the question is whether the Head of State should be elected for 6 years and the Head of Government for 4 years.
Options:
* The election of the Head of State is March 1, 2018, the election of the Head of Government is October 1, 2018.
* The election of the Head of State is October 1, 2018, the election of the Head of Government is October 1, 2019.
Or how would they propose this?
