What was the best possible glider-born, self-propelled a time-tank fun possible in 1944, given the 17,000 pound 7 tonne) payload of Hamilcar assault gliders?
OTL Brits built tracked Tetrach and Harry Hopkins AFVs while Americans built a few Locust light tanks. They were armed - at best - with 37mm or 6-pounder guns ... good early in World War 2, but out-classed by 1944.
The only heavy gun variant was the Alecto SP gun based on a Tetrach chassis.
Granted, any gun heavy enough to terrify Tigers will need recoil spades.
How much weight could be saved by abandoning most of the armour?
Could SP guns be built lighter on wheeled chassis?
