Best case scenario for the Paris Commune

I don't think that the Paris Commune could have succeeded; it was essentially one city versus the rest of Europe. That being said, what could the communards have done differently to survive longer? What is the longest that they could have lasted?

I thought the treasury was lifted from the commune? Maybe they'd absorb much of the army and just be a revolutionary France?

If it never happened it would have sparred everyone a lot of suffering...
I don't get the love of Paris commune on this board they were doomed from the start.

Stop letting your "better dead than red" paranoia get the better of you and enjoy the althistory:D:mad::D

Really the Paris Commune sucked. They tried to burn Paris to the ground when they started losing and succeeded with the Tuileries Palace. Can you imagine them burning the Louvre or trying to destroy the notre dame de paris? they were revolutionary nutjobs who should have never been allowed to come to power, even for the brief disjunctive time they had OTL.

All aspects of French politics have a nut job sub component. Get used to things spiraling out of control when dealing with France.

Somehow gain the allegiance of some faction in the military, stir up large resentful mobs throughout the rest of France, while somehow managing to run into a large amount of money... or perhaps money first, then mobs, then soldiers... or money first then soldiers, then mobs.

Then through a combination of force of numbers, and a small solid core of actual soldiers, gain control of most of France. After that, with a lot of cash, a lot of good ideas, and the continued support of the French lower classes, perhaps the leaders and ideas of the Paris Commune last a couple of decades. Before they end up altered beyond all recognition and spiraling into a seemingly never ending pit of chaos and despair.

But they didn't have any good ideas and they didn't have the support of the French lower classes except for some of the people in the eastern part of Paris.

Yeah if they had had the support of lower classes they wouldn't have lost the election. People forget that the Paris commune because the Parisians were upset about losing the election. (ok losing the war with Germany also upset them). (was the election universal male suffrage by the way)

The Paris Commune was just what the name said: the PARIS commune. Not the French Commune. There was no support outside of Paris. In fact didn't a French politician say something gallon the lines of now Paris won't be able to dictate the future of France or something similar? So truly, though I hate to say it considering all the destruction they caused, one could say that the Paris Commune a good thing, because it broke the power of the Parisian Mobs to be able to change governments on a whim.
