Like the title says. Russia after the collapse of Soviet Union became a democracy only to suffer years of mismanagement, corruption with the rule of oligarchs and mafias, separatism in the Caucasus region, emigrations and failing economy. Until Putin came to power and Russia had gotten slightly better (tho' at the cost of many political freedoms like dead journalists for example) at his helm. (Not to mention, recent troubles concerning US-Russian relations on the news but this is not the point of the topic of this thread)
What do you think would be the best scenario for Russia in Post-Soviet years? Will it retained most of former USSR borders or Russia will inevitably be the same in OTL?
