Best case scenario for Mexico post-1848?

Self-explanatory. What is the best-case scenario for Mexico after the loss of the Mexican-American War in 1848? Does it have any hope of regaining any of the lost territories to the north? What is the likelihood of the country industrializing? Could it have been spared some of the worse events in its history (e.g. the Mexican Revolution)? Et cetera, et cetera...

The Gadsen Purchase doesn't go through for various reasons ITTL, and thus Santa Anna isn't able to pay off his troops. The Ayutla Revolution happens slightly earlier (perhaps 1852-53) as a result, and the moderates have a few more years to solidify their base during La Reforma. When the alt-Reform War breaks out the moderates and liberals are even more successful, so by 1858-59 the war has largely ended in a stable, republican, Mexico. The French Intervention and subsequent chaos never happens, and Mexico slowly but steadily reforms and prospers in the late 19th century.
