Best AARs of the Paradox Forums

It's a narrative AAR. :) Story, Story, Story. Besides, so far the World Map hasn't changed much outside of Japanese Occupied China.

Please at least put in some more maps. Maps are good; maps are your friend.

You don't even have to put them in that often, just every so often... :(

How about a map of the communist USA? I'd like to see what its internal divisions are now... ;)

Well, as it happens I am working on a UCS World Map right now, and yopu just made me plan an Internal Division map of communist America. Expect both over the course of this day.

Here comes the World Map!

September 1940:

The French fought on, and moved their capital to Algiers. The Japanese subjugated China, and the Phillipines are fully independant and he who must not be named will sone make an appearance in the AAR.

Japanese have also fully annexed the area around Shanghai.

Commie America internal Division pic might take some time, because I seem to have misplaced the list where I actually wrote the new 'states' down.

Anyway. The idea behind the UAPR, or Union of American People's Republics' is that the various parts are nominally independant Peoples Republics and assorted Communist forms of state that have signed a treaty of Union. A bit like the USSR, but with many different details that I haven't bothered to work out yet.

Here we go. It's a bit of a rush job, but mainly because I couldn't find/remember that list. I also ran out of good ideas near the bottom of the list.

No offense, but I find a lot of issues with those names. Applachia in the gulf states? Isota? There's no point in making up names for these new "states" in the UPRA, and I can't think of many Americans who say "Appalachia" and think of the South. Appalachia is where your "north appalachia" lies. I promote the idea of "Dixie" for that particular region of Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia. It makes more sense. And why would a communist state, supposedly atheist, use a religious-loaded term like "Deseret"? While I like to see the results of a communist USA, you should put more effort into the actual divisions and their names. I think you'd be better off sticking to current state names. And if you're that set on creating new borders for the PR's, I would recommend a smaller number.

Here's my ideas for your list:
People's Republic of New England(the usual new england states plus New York and Pennsylvania)
People's Republic of Appalachia(Virgina, West Virginia, Tennesee and Kentucky maybe Maryland as well for simplicity's sake)
Democratic Republic of Dixieland(Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Florida, Carolinas)
Marxist Union of Pacifica(Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada maybe as well)
Great Lakes Union of Communes(Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana)
Democratic People's Republics of the Heartland(Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Iowa, Oklahoma)
Rocky Mountain Socialist Union(Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, the Dakotas)
Grand River Worker's Federation(Texas, Arizona, New Mexico)

Of course, if it's a brand new country trying to get rid of the "outdated bourgeoise order and their states" wouldn't they choose new borders altogether? Sorry if I'm seeming overly critical, but those divisions of yours just don't make sense to me.

As for AAR's that I enjoyed: I liked "In peace and freedom" a swiss AAR that has really interesting things going on even though switzerland never expands beyond its original borders. Also, for a TL where the Act of Union never occurs and the kingdom of Ireland reforms check out "Ireland, Awake" and its sequel "Ireland, Ascend". Both are a good read.

It's not overly critical, I have ctp in my sig for a reason. The point is, I had a rather good hand-written list for new states a while back, but alas, it was stolen along with my bag a while back. I will make a new map post haste. Would you mind if I used these? Due credit will be given.

Here we go.

I split Louisiana and California for yet to be revealed background story reasons. Again, I did have a really good and extensive list for almost all of the singular states, without too many changes except that I split Utah, Nevada and Alabhama in that version. I should have scanned it or something.

That's better. Makes a lot more sense as well. Quick question: Why is Maryland seperate from the other PR's? Nothing bad about it, just curious.

House Hohenzollern Rising isn't on the Paradox forums and is still ongoing, but is one of the best I've read. It's a megacampaign that stretches from Crusader Kings to HoI2. It really picks up starting with Victoria, when the author starts showing his masterful skill with event modding. Here's the world as of HoI2 (linked for table breakage)
