Agree Maurits van Oranje, good commander, but above all a great innovator and reformer for new infantry tactics and military standardisation. He was the person that standardised artillery and also loads of tactics, and he was the person that introduced military professionalism and introduced military drill.
also classified a greatest general of his era by his contemporaries.
the later Gustavus Adolphus was inspired by him

Spinola beat Maurice doesn't he get some credit as a commander.

the essence is that all of the drill practises and other practises Maurits introduced formed the basis of the military as we know it today, as a general only he would have had equals, but his revolutionary military innovations and reforms is what makes him stick out.
