Belfort Ceded to Germany after Franco-Prussian War

Bismarck and Moltke presented the French negotiators in 1871 at the conclusion of the Franco-Prussian War with a choice: they could allow the German armies to hold a victory march in Paris, or they could cede the fortress of Belfort and its accompanying surrounding region of Alsace. In OTL, the French picked the former.

WI, however, the French negotiators were either worried about the far left presence in Paris or simply too proud to allow a victory march, and ceded Belfort to Germany? How would this have affected a WW1-analogue?

this is sort of interesting though not too probable (even French testosterone has its limits)

I would see the French building their own sets of forts in the late 19th century trying to prevent the Germans from using Belfort as a jumping off point. I would see the Germans keeping the Belfort fortress up to date as a jumping off point. If the French forts are too close to the Germans you could see fort vs fort which would be cool.
