They are. But what's wrong with socialism?

No they are not. Socialism is when the workers control the workplace, not when the government gives you free stuff.

And nothing is wrong with socialism, it's great, what's wrong is when people think that Bernie Sanders is a socialist.

The map had other socialist powers but was just a welfare state it seemed.
A very extensive welfare state.
Things are solidly regulated as well. Lots of top down controls (for instance oil reserves are nationally owned for the UK, and are a major chunk of the economy).

But do they claim to be socialist/promote any sort of socialist ideology?

Contact War?

I think it's just contact with OTL. I mean our world might seam alien to them, we have nukes dispite their obvious existential threat and we have a democratic America.

This world's "Columbian Exchange" was far more equal in terms of disease. The Americas were hit overall on of level of the worse estimates for how the Black Death hit Europe OTL (many areas seeing over 50% die offs). Africa was hit worse still, wit some regions seeing die offs of nearly 70%. Australasia was far enough from the exchange to end up slightly less hit than Africa (~60% die offs). Meanwhile the exposed Eurasian populations have been seeing die offs of 90% or more. That started about 150 years ago though, and the exchange of crops and farming technology have lead to a boom in growth after than die off (though the occasional regional flare ups to happen), and the global population has nearly recovered to the pre-contact level of ~300 million (with North America as the one region with noticeably more people now than at contact).
