Battle of Carrizal 1916 leads to new Mexican-American War

OK, WI the skirmish between the 10th Cav & Mexican federal troops at Carrizal in 1916 led to fullscale war between the US & Mexico ?

I like the idea. This would have had implications for the First World War as well, Mexico and Germany might have decided to join forces to fight the US. But I do wonder how much prodding before hand Mexico have had to have done...

US fighting a concurrent war (or another theater of the same one) might prevent us from getting into the war in Europe. Though the Entente or Central Powers might declare one side or the other to be an ally, I don't really expect any practical support. Everyone's too tied up in Europe to send an expeditionary force or anything, though I could expect some naval combat to occur.

I might be in the minority here, but I don't think a US-Mexico war is a complete cakewalk for the States. I have no doubt they would eventually win, but if it turns into guerrilla warfare, then it could go on for a while. Look how much trouble we had with Pancho Villa. Now imagine that on a much wider scale.

And what happens after the war? Do we see a fascist Mexico emerge?

The US military is institutionally prepared for guerrilla warfare in 1916. The Army and Marines Just fought the Philippine insurrection 3 years ago (Pacification of the Moros). The Us army and Marine Corps retain officers for (iirc) 30-40 years at this time. The Army is very big on cavalry, It's how they won the Indian wars. God help the Mexicans If it becomes Guerrilla warfare.
The 2nd Mexican war should be over by 1924 if it becomes a guerrilla war or, 1918 if it stays conventional.
If the Entante goes for Supporting Mexico Japan could send troops to aid Mexico or to attack the Philippines. the Entante wouldn't do that though, because it would literally lose them the war.
