During the Battle of Britian, the Germans initially targeted airfields and radar installations, as well as naval bases and Fighter command. But as they were begining to wear the RAF down, they switched tactics, targeting British cities and civilian sectors instead.

This tactic had the opposite effect on the British people and their Morale, but what if Germany had decided to tread down an unholy path...

What if, when choosing to target the civilian sector, what if the Germans had unleashed a series of massive chemical (and possibly biological) attack on the unsuspecting British people? Could it have weakened the British enough that Operation Sealion could have been launched? Would British resistance stiffen even harder?

I figure that such a move would doubtless bring the USA in early, as word of such an attack would likely horrify the American people. Not to mention that World War Two would have gotten even nastier...

But the main question is, how does this effect Britian's ability to wage war after such a series of attacks? Would Britian be able to respond readily enough, or quickly enough before the Germans had fully prepared themselves for retribution?

Any thoughts? Also, if anyone knows whether or not Germany was ahead in the Chemical/Biological weapons department, that might help this scenario (based on the idea that british authorities are able to issue out protection for one gas, then they get hit with one they have no defense for.)
