Barack Obama a conservative Republican and G.W. Bush supporter.

What if instead of being a liberal Democrat, Barack Obama was a conservative Republican and a strong supporter of President George W. Bush. Suppose also that G.W. Bush was a very popular President and his policies had been very popular with The American People. You would probably need that to have another conservative Republican follow him into The White House.

In 2008, as a strong conservative, Barack Obama wins the Republican nomination and is elected President. Conservative Republicans also win control of both houses of Congress by a very comfortable margin.

Too many PODs there. You'd need something to make Barack more conservative (probably something much earlier) and something else to make Bush popular.

You would need a POD way back in Obama's life. Perhaps he joins a evangelical church. Gets screwed over by the Chicago machine.

Switches parties. Gives his speech at the GOP convention.

He was raised in Kenya, emigrates to the U.S. in his adulthood as a traditional, conservative immigrant, is embraced by the GOP in a desparate attempt to foister a minority face. Also, no 9/11 (or even 9/11 perpetrated by other culprits) so no anti-Muslim backlash in America.

Instead of the Indonesian, Obama's mom marries a wealthy, Republican businessman who not only indulges her scholarly pursuits, but also becomes a good role model. Obama's name is officially changed, by the way, to Barry (shall we say) Smith as his new dad officially adopts him. Barack now Barry still goes to Harvard Law, but instead of going to Chicago, he goes to California to teach at Stanford. There he meets a Russian Studies teacher named Condi Rice. They fall in love, marry, and later work for GW Bush. Barry becomes a White House advisor when Condi is National Security Advisor. Later Barry becomes Secretary of HUD where he makes a splash. When Gray Davis starts his fall in 2003, Barry sees a chance and goes back to California, runs for Governor, and wins.

In 2008, Barry Smith became the first African American President, running on a ticket with Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, beating the Democratic ticket of Hillary Clinton and Bill Richardson.

Barack Obama becomes a lawyer but a corporate lawyer instead and instead of the radical Black Christianity he converted to OTL he remains a conservative Muslim (but doesn't get identified with Islamic terrorism) or an Evengelical Christian. Or you might just make him a Libertarian Republican rather then a socially conservative one.

Have him join the military...

Have a young Obama join the military whiler living in Hawaii. Perhaps he is known in the alternate history by a different name, such as Barry Obama. Once in the miltary, he distinguishes himself, and eventually leaves the service a decorated, conservative officer. From there, he enters politics...

This may not be ASB territory. I forget the man's name and the year, it was the first black law student to attend the University of Mississippi law school. He was escorted to class by US Marshalls past an angry mob. That man is now a conservative Republican. Truth can be stranger than fiction.

It may also have been Mississippi State University, one of those state schools.
