King Baldwin of Jerusalem was the ruler of the Kingdom of Jerusalem during its height of power in the 1180's. As a child, Baldwin was diagnosed with leprosy by William of Tyre, his tutor, esnsuring a tragic end for the young ruler. He died at the age of 24 after appointing his nephew Baldwin of Montferrat his heir and successor.

Unfortunately, Baldwin of Montferrat died shortly after his uncle due to illness. This left Guy de Lusignian in charge of the kingdom. Guy's reign proved to be disasterous, and the Kingdom was nearly wiped out by Saladin after the Battle of Hattin.

So what if the Leper King never contracts leprosy?
