B-60 instead of B-52

First thought is that it has a combat radius only 2/3 that of a B-52. That’d have to be pretty significant when you’re talking strategic bombers surely.

If the B36 development happens sooner the B36 could be the primary bomber to attack Japan in World War II from bases in Hawaii. The success of the B36 would give Convair an advantage when the post war jet bomber designs were needed.

WI if the Air Force decided on the B-52? (The B-52 prototype crashes during test flight)

Nope ...

The B-36 was too prone to breakdowns, while the B-47 not, and Boeing had a lot of "connections" within USAF Strategic ... many people thought both were obsolete, but the B-60 a lot more than the B-52 ... IIRC one "brilliant mind" seeing the B-58 flying said something along "this plane will last for years, and the B-52 would not" ...

With the same 8 J57's but significantly greater weight, the XB-60 was slower than the XB-52. Convair had relatively less experience with big swept wings than Boeing, as demonstrated by the comparatively thick rigid wing on the XB-60.
