My own timeline of the Aztec empire surviving, originally was on another Forum, then I found out, I was on the wrong forum. This symbol, *, are characters who are fictional. I also may go back and edit it a bit with out warning.
- 1519 - The Spaniards make the first contact with the Aztec Empire
- 1520 - The La noche triste event. Cortes and Pedro de Alvarado is killed during the action
- Cuauhtémoc took power in 1520 as successor of Cuitahuac death
- 1521 - The Spanish flee back to Veracruz, fortifying their position
- Aztec suffer major plagues in Tenochtitlan. 1/3 of the population had been wiped out.
- European conquest of the New World slows down. Spanish conquest focuses now on the Northern part of Mexico, the Yucatan, and Central America
- 1525- Due to diseases and plagues, tributary states began to break off, while forming alliances with the Spanish trading post of Veracruz. Tlaxcala starts relations with Spain, even letting missionaries to convert them. The only remnant of the Aztec Empire is this:
- The Aztecs, although in a isolationist stance due to the plagues, tries to reverse engineer Musket Technology, but fails, however manage to reverse engineer crossbows.
- 1533- A daring and bold conquistador, Francisco Pizarro, hears stories from New world about the Incan Empire. Wanting to gain the Glory and Honor for exceeding where Cortes failed, he conquers the Incan Empire with 600 soldiers. With the added wealth of silver from Peru, the Spanish empire has inflation.
- 1554- Guatemoc*, son of Tecuichpoch Ixcaxochitzin, becomes the Emperor. He began a long conquest of the smaller states, and centralized power to the Emperor and his advisors, and making the title of Emperor hereditary. The Triple Alliance reformed into the Mexica Empire (Though Europeans still call it the Aztec Empire)
- 1563- The sailor and Privateer, Francis Drake, is tasked to start diplomatic relations between the Aztecs and England.
- 1564- Francis Drake arrives in Tenochtitlan and meets Guatemoc. Drake negotiates for European knowledge in musket making, medicines, and metal forging, in exchange for a small settlement in near Lake Texcoco and trade in gold.
- 1566-A small amount of English settlers arrive in the Aztec Empire, establishing Drake Town. The English starts teaching the Aztecs how to mine the iron in the land, musket making, and with the help of medicines, help minimize the diseases.
To appease the English, the Aztecs heavily reformed their religion, removing human sacrifice and cannibalism from it.
- 1572-Francis Drake leaves the Aztec Empire, to attack Spanish Panama. He has volunteers from Aztec people.
- 1580- Guatemoc invades and annexes Tlaxcala, and instead of sacrificing the captives, send them to iron mines. He invades and occupies Veracruz, to eliminate the Spanish presence
- King Phillip II of Spain, hearing about the Aztecs enslaving the Christians of Tlaxcala, and invading Veracurz, uses this as an excuse to invade the Aztec Empire. Another benefit of conquering the Aztecs is to eliminate an ally of the English, and to get all the wealth of the Aztecs, to help ease the bankruptcy of Spain
- 1582- A Spanish invasion begins, with 700 men and 50 ships, sailed for Cuba to Veracruz.
- When the Spanish arrive, Aztec scouts spotted them when they landed. The Aztecs began to attack the Spanish with new musket warfare and guerilla warfare. However this unable to stop the Spanish forces, which is heading to Texcoco.
- Guatemoc moves his forces to Texcoco, however would abandon it, after taking all the food and leaving only treasure. His thought would that the Spanish wouldn't resist looting Texcoco.
- The Spanish arrive in Texcoco and falls for the trap. The Aztec forces surrounds the city and bombards it with their new cannon. Guatemoc is killed by a stray musket ball, however the Spanish surrender. His son* becomes the new emperor
- 1585- The Spanish governor of New Spain signs a peace treaty, ceding a little bit of land, but importantly Veracruz, giving the Aztecs a port.
