Awesome AHC : Shi'ite Latin America

Find a way with PoD no earlier then the ascension of Muawiyah after Ali's death, to make roughly the area of OTL Latin America religiously Shia Islamic and linguistically speaking latin-descended language.

Oh wat?

"Latin Syiah"

You know that "Latin" is actually Krama Javanese spelling of Indonesian "Laten" (the english word is "Latent")

Yes, the spelling on that banner is clearly inconsistent... :D

The Arabs remain in control of Spain and later convert to Shi'ism. Then they colonize Latin America.

Arabs ?

And how do you bring Shi'ism to Spain ? Unlike Iran which always had sizeable shia minority and superfluous cults, I've never heard any mention of Shi'ite presence in Spain. That's why I put a very early lower bar for the PoD.

Could you do something with Morocco? The Idrisids were Zaidi, maybe they could hang on and, um...something. I dunno how this ends up with a population speaking Latinate-vernaculars though.

Yeah, to my knowledge there was a Shi'ite population in the early centuries. If you can entrench that, then later colonization of Latin America is an option.

Well I guess I meant Muslims.

And I was never under the impression that having a Shia minority was part of the reason for the Safavids to convert? So I dont see why they can't convert?

And the Hammudids sound like a good start too.

Safavids were definitely appealing to the Alevi population across the Zagros range through converting from Sunni to heterodox Shia. And later they converted to Twelver sect in order to coopt local Shiite clergy in Greater Iran to facilitate state-building, which had been there since the Abbasids time.

Hammudids sound interesting, but I think as long as you don't tap the potential of the native Muladi and Mozarabic population(which is where the Romance language will come from), I don't think any Shia attempt to take power will gain permanent success.
