@Jan Olbracht in my another thread about additional daughter of Sigismund the Old remarked that Luiz of Portugal was considered as a husband of Hedwig Jagiellon. So let's say that Magdalena of Saxony, first wife of Joachim II Hektor doesn't die in childbirth and lives to 1560, preventing Joachim from marrying Hedwig. Instead, Hedwig marries Luiz of Portugal and gives birth to following children:
Sigismund (1536-1596)
Louis the Younger (1540-1600)
Hedwig (1545-1595)
Edward (born and died in 1545)
Sigismund would be obvious candidate to succeed his childless uncle on the throne, given fact that Habsburgs would back him after Ernest's failure and the fact (observed by Polish historians of that time) that: "Opponents of Henry of Valois were so numerous that if they chose one candidate, they would easily stop Valois from becoming King of Poland"). It was very beginning of PLC, so Polish king had a say back than and Sigismund III Avis could be able to do something meaningful with PLC. And after the death of king Sebastiao of Portugal, Sigismund or Louis (or one of their sons) would be the legal heirs to Portugal. What will happen next?
