Automotive WI: Renault-Nissan merges with GM in 2006

In 2006, Renault-Nissan and GM were in favor of merger but the offer was quickly abandoned: what if this merger was made successfully? GM would have always wanted to sell Opel by next time? What would GM models look like under this entity?

GM would likely have worse transmissions than OTL. Nissan's CVTs are shit from what I hear.

That depends. The front drive CVTs were the same chain style as the Volkswagen/Audi models that couldn't handle more than 216 lb.ft. of torque. The Extroid paddle style CVT could handle at least 475 lb.ft, making it perfect for the non-limited edition C6 Corvette, Camaro, and any hypothetical Cadillac "Brougham" flagship sedan, or at least the V8 version. The only problem would be mission conflict between Cadillac and Infiniti. They could even bring over the Espace as the Impala APV.

This question makes no sense to me. What exactly are you asking?

I swear I sometimes want to send half of Alt History’s membership to grammar school and the other half to Berlitz. Why is it so hard to make a coherent preposition, inquiry or assertion?

My Subaru has the same Nissan CVT and it’s been working well for years now. Mitsubishi uses it too. Hopefully whatever you’ve heard doesn’t befall us.

In fact, I'm wondering if GM would still try to sell Opel in the event of a merger with Renault-Nissan, if the brand continues to be unprofitable. But I wonder who will they sell it to? PSA, Fiat, Magna, as OTL in 2009?
