Austro Prusian war, Dutch teritorial gains?

Should it be possible that the Netherlands gain some teritory at the expense of Hanover as a result of the Austro Prusian war of 1866?
This could be the result of diplomatic support rahter than actual militiary support, although a, small, mobilsation of the Dutch army could be part of it.

I am thinking of teritorial gain as East Frisia, Arenberg and Bentheim.

I realy don't see how. Not only did the Dutch not care for it (certainly not in a lets get involved in a war that does not concern us way), they did not have any sort of claim on it (besides maybe East-Frisia, but only barely). Besides that, why would Prussia give it to the Netherlands, while they actualy could use it for a harbor. And finaly it would just anger the German nationalists who wanted to unite Germany not give parts of it away to other countries.

Unless the Dutch would be willing to join the German empire in exchange for land, but I don't think that's probable.

The Netherlands did not had the desire to be part of an, at that time, future German federation or empire but they were open for a custom treaties.
I read some where that Bismarck was expecting that the Netherlands would join voluntairy as far as he was intersted in the Netherlands.

Bismarck never wanted the Dutch to join a future German state, as he wanted a German state that consisted solely -or, considering the Polish minority in the East, at the very least mostly- of German nationals. This position is also the main reason why Bismarck was so ardently opposed to incorporating Elsass-Lothringen following the Franco-German War.

Personaly I think that if you want this area to become part of the Netherlands you need a treaty of Vienna POD*. Give Luxemburg (and possibly part of Liege) to Prussia and the Netherlands get compensated with the areas you described.

* Well another way could be after WWII or possibly a WWI in which the Netherlands was invaded.

I agree that a different ToVienna is the best way, especially for East Frisia. British diplomacy wanted to keep Emden out of Prussian ahnds, but they probably did not really care if EF went to the NL or to Hanover. Bentheim might happen as well, the Emsland less likely.

BTW, extreme nitpick: The Duchy of Arenberg-Meppen is smaller than the medium green area on your map, since that includes the Lower County of Lingen (formerly Prussian) and a part of Rheina-Wolbeck.

Another rather far-fetched option:

Prussia suffers a crushing defeat and loses much of its 1815 gains to Austria, Saxony, Hanover etc. Napoleon III claims the Rhineland and in order to avoid that, the Powers agree to create a sovereign Grand Duchy of the Lower Rhine (not "of the Rhine" because Hesse-Darmstadt) inside the GC; ruled by either GD Frederick (Willem Frederik Karel), second son of William I or GD Henry (Willem Frederik Hendrik), third son of William II, both princes from the neighboring Netherlands. The latter might even be expected to still father an heir.

Well Lingen used to be sort of Dutch, as in the Dutch stadholders were count of Lingen until William III died without children and Prussia inherited it. If the Netherlands gains the Emsland, it seems reasonable that they would gain Lingen too. According to the Dutch wikipedia Lingen spoke Dutch until the 20th century.
