Austro-Italian or Franco-Italian Union, what's best?

Clearly the Aragon-Italian Latin Empire is best.... I play way too much divergence of darkness

Anyway, If the "best of all possible outcomes" happens their rule would be very different. In the "best" French union you might see a converged Romance-based identity. Here the ultimate goal would be a synthesis of cultures. The Italian cities, plus the southern French cities would find a common cause in opposing a pure Parisian identity and sort of synthesis with each other. In this a Franco-Italian Nation might be born.
For Austrian rule, it would probably look like an autonomous region, either from the HRE, or a Danube federation, Here the Italian idenity would be more "pure" but it would work in tandium with German, Hungarian, Balkan, Etc. Identities. In such a federation they either would be the "Kings" (most powerful if Italy is tagged onto the Austrian Empire), Or King makers (if Germany is included in an HRE like state) either way they would represent a significant pull and identity separate from the "Main" culture
