Just occurred to me while reading the Austro-Prussian Intervention in Crimea thread; if at some point before Ausgleich the Austrian Empire was able to unite the German statelets (sans Prussia) into a unified entity dominated by itself, what would become of the non-German parts of the empire? Is it likely they would stick around now that Germans make up a clearer majority in the empire? Would there be rebellions, and if so, what chance would they have?

This greater Austria-Germany would obviously be seen as a considerable threat to European stability; I imagine we would see a Prusso-Russian alliance to counter it, but where would France and Britain stand on this stage? What about the Italian states?
