Austria and her military frontiers

I have two questions regarding the Austrian/Habsburg military frontiers. My understanding is that the military frontiers were controlled by the army
and basically reported directly to the King-Emperor. I would also assume that this made it easier to deal summarily with anyone entertaining rebellious ideas.
1) Could the Empire have continued the military frontiers upto the beginning of the 20th century?
2) Could the Empire have turned the territory known as Royal Hungary into a military frontier? Would this have allowed better control of the rest of Hungary when it was regained from the Ottomans?

I think you misunderstand the purpose of the "Militärgrenze" ist was intended as a (rather inefficient) defensive perimeter against the Ottomans. It was not intended to be an "internal security" area. The Austrian Army drew many soldiers out of the Militärgrenze, but for external conflicts and not for counterinsurgent or "police" duties.

tro answer your question 1) yes, why not (but it would serve no purpose)

2) Sure - but after the "reconquista ;)" it would be well within the Habsburg Heartland and be abolished...
