Australian politics WI

Is there any way we can get the major Australian political parties to respect older MPs and Senators?

Both the ALP and the Coalition have party policies forcing their MPs and Senators to retire at 65 or 70.
These were introduced in the 1970s and have never been repealed.

I’m not sure it is the major political parties that are the issue so much as the media, recall the constant questions put to John Howard about when he would retire. It’s an easy stick to beat a Prime Mister with if the opposition leader is younger.
