There is little to no strategic benefit to Australia, other than alliance politics, to send more forces to Iraq.

If there was a greater threat in the region Australia would develop expeditionary forces in order undertake selective offensives aganst such threats. A defensive strategy will most likely fail given the size of the area to be defended and the resources we could summon in an emergency.

You mean like the expeditionary force currently under construction that is planned to be based around the pair of Canberra class LHD's under construction?
