im trying to figure out who the presidents of the united states of north america (USNA) are in my ATL after a certain point in time, in this case, following taft's exit from office. i'll list off the difficulties that ive come to for this aspect of my ATL:
- the earliest im wondering about is kind of a takeoff of TL-191, but could teddy roosevelt be elected to a third term? its not because i thinks he's the best president, but simply because he's my favorite one. this could also impact FDR later if congress decides a president can only be elected twice after teddy's third term
- i imagine wilson would still be elected, but there's no WWI for the US to get involved in, so would he be re-elected or would his opponent, charles hughes, become president instead?
- following the second term of wilson or the presidency of hughes, i imagine the TL would go as it did IOTL because there's no major departures concerning the US from this time onwards, until 1941 when a major war with spain erupts in central and south america in 1941 (its supposed to be analogous to the pacific theater of WW2)
- on to FDR. he'd probably get his first term from '33-'37, and again from '37-'41, but could he be elected again if (assuming a third teddy term doesnt limit terms to two) there's no overseas war affecting an ally? aside from the aforementioned spanish-american war, there's no other conflicts similar to WWII
- the spanish-american war is planned to go on to 1945, and assuming FDR has only two terms, would a different president be able to effectively lead the country during a war like that? or would the war go on a bit longer?
- after that, there;s eisenhower, who would probably still be elected because of his role in the spanish-american war, but there's no korean and vietnam wars and no cold war that the US gets involved in, so would eisenhower be re-elected? what about kennedy, LBJ, nixon, ford, and reagan?
- since the cold war was over at this time, i dont think there would be that many changes to the elections of HW bush and clinton, and W would probably get his first election. but there's no 9/11 here, and consequently no war with iraq and/or afghanistan, so what are bush's chances of re-election here?
- as for the current recession, im honestly not sure how the previous events would affect this or the election of either barack obama or john mccain, or if the 2008 election would even be like our own because of no middle eastern conflict. ideas here?
