So, this is where we create short (although you can be long) biographies for ATL people, or OTL people in an ATL. The POD is 1898 so don't post people who died before then, and remember that people born during or after the POD are likely to be ATL people or severely butterflied. You can do anybody you want, although they must be significant in some way (culturally, religiously, politically, economically and so forth) and they must all fit into a single TL. So here's the first one:

Vasiliy IV Romanov, Emperor of Russia (born 1954 - ascended to the throne 1974 - died 2008)

Vasiliy IV Romanov was a true man of the people. Continuing in the wake of his father Alexei's reforms, he brought true freedom to the people of Russia, and continued détente with the USA, resulting in the end of the Cold War in 1993. However, that was not the end of his belief in peace, although he understood that violence sometimes had to be used, as seen in his interventions in Afghanistan after terrorists bombed Saint-Petersburg in an attempt to kill him.

He proceeded to continue his father Alexei's economic reforms, resulting in the Russian economy becoming only matched by the US. Overall, at his sudden death in 2008 his nation was at a better state than it had been in years.

Not for nothing was he called 'a giant on the diplomatic stage', as he bravely spoke out against all forms of injustice, within and outside his nation.

He died in 2008 of a sudden stroke, and was survived by his daughter Anastasia (who later became Empress of Russia) and several other children and family members. He will be missed.
